The Salvation Army Thrift Store & Donation Center

Nice selection and quantity of items. Well organized and reasonable prices. Dressing rooms are currently available. I appreciate the store being spread out enough that the isles aren’t super narrow and it’s easy to get by without getting claustrophobic. Employees are friendly. A good place to stop and check out when traveling through Portland.

While waiting for my car to get fixed next door, I was excited to try this store given the reviews but when I went today it was disappointing. The store floors and nookies and crannies are dirty & grimy (although the building does seem to be an old warehouse or something, it still grossed me out.) There is also a large selection of clothes that are a great price and nicely organized by color and size but the clothes are out of date and poor quality. The furniture and home section was lacking with lots of rundown pieces. The children’s section was the saddest as everything is Granimals or Wonder Nation, which are fine but they are not unique finds and would have stains or an ill fit. Overall, not my favorite store. It’s very large but doesn’t offer much.

I have shopped this thrift store off and on for ten years now. The things that stands out most are their huge space and very kind staff. The location is a big, open warehouse with plenty of space for inventory, so I rarely have trouble finding a couple of interesting items. And the staff is so nice! Some of them have been around since I started shopping there when I first moved to Portland. They’re mostly unobtrusive, but all of my interactions have always been friendly and kind. This isn’t really a great place to hunt for hidden $$ brand gems, but it’s a great place to pick up some basics, curiosities, maybe some well-priced furniture. For example, in my time shopping there I’ve found exactly one lululemon t-shirt (and I know the brand well so I know what I’m looking for), but I’ve found So Many great sweaters from different, less well known brands. If I had to classify it, I’d say this is a practical thrift store, not a trendy thrift store. Honestly love this place and I hope they keep up their great work for many years to come!
